Momento Mori Tabletop Featured on California Wedding Day

We are so excited to showcase our first table from the Luxe Launch 2015 series. Kristeen LaBrot Events teamed up with Pixie’s Petals to create their gorgeous table titled “Momento Mori.” This design features our Giana Moss Green linen and Charcoal Metallic Weave, Black Shantung and Eggplant Shantung Napkins. Dish WishA Rental Connection and Line 204 Events also provided tabletop pieces set up at Sherwood Country Club. Thank you Michelle from Michelle Lacson Photography for these images!

We have an exclusive interview with Kristeen LaBrot conducted by Lara Burnap of California Wedding Day. See below for the full Q&A session and photos!

What drew you to this linen?

I actually had the whole thing planned before I picked out the linen!

So tell me-where did your inspiration start?

My art history background was something I drew from- I always loved Momento Mori. It is 16th century Dutch still life. So we brought this theme into the flowers and the whole tabletop with items like the skull, hourglass and clock. The movement says, “We are all going to die, and we should enjoy a beautiful life while we can.” It’s not supposed to be morbid, it’s supposed to be happy. There are definitely death elements on the table, but it supposed to be happy. I went for a purple to contrast the green, because purple was the color of royalty back then, also a nod to the Joker.

Talk me through the details of the table.

During this movement, there was a time that people started to show their wealth more. So we did a little nod to that with the pearls and ornate flatware. I wanted the graphic design to be more modern, to contrast with the vintage items. I’m obsessed with these chairs because they were called Infiniti and they had to rename them as “Phoenix” because of a copyright. I was attracted to the name “Infiniti” because it represented the afterlife-everything worked. The table also includes black candles, candlesticks, medicinal bottles/ apothecary jars on the table from Etsy. The table is a celebration of love and life.

Tell me about the flowers.

There is no color palette, the inspiration was Momento Mori and Dutch still life. So I looked at a lot of photos, and I didn’t see a main color, but there were lavenders and bright oranges. I wanted to take those colors and add pops of blue.
